
A man has appeared in court after a police chase across Richmondshire.
Scott James Watt, 33, of Appersett Gill, Appersett, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
It follows a police chase across Richmondshire involving the driver of a Skoda on Thursday last week.
The defendant has been charged with a range of offences including dangerous driving on roads including the B1365, B1264, B1263, B6271, B6270 and A684.
He is also accused of criminal damage to a police vehicle belonging to Cleveland Police which allegedly occurred in Gunnerside.
Mr Watt was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm of a named man and wounding with intent of a different man.
Both alleged attacks are said to have occurred in Appersett.
The defendant is also accused racial/religious harassment following an incident at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
All offences are alleged to have taken place on Thursday last week.
He did not enter his plea and the case was transferred to crown court next month.
The defendant was remanded in custody.
The police chase occurred last Thursday morning.
Police began following a vehicle after receiving a report of a vehicle being driven dangerously near Hornby.
The vehicle was pursued by police towards Richmond and into the Dales, through Reeth and Gunnerside, before crossed into Wensleydale and crashed and overturned at Appersett.
The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
