Families will be able to enjoy cheaper days out across North Yorkshire this summer after children were offered free bus travel throughout August.
Under the Government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme, children aged under 16 can travel free on most local bus services in England during the school holidays.
The initiative is designed to help families cut the cost of days out while encouraging more people to use buses for shopping, visiting friends and family and exploring the countryside.
The offer applies to thousands of routes, including most bus services across Teesside and North Yorkshire operated by Arriva, Hodgsons, Little White Bus, Procters and Stagecoach.
It also includes the popular weekend Moorsbus services and Sunday DalesBus routes, giving families a low-cost way to visit the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
Among the services included are the DalesBus 858, linking Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington and Richmond with Askrigg, Hawes and Ribblehead; the DalesBus 859 to Leyburn; and the DalesBus 831 serving Reeth, Muker, the Buttertubs Pass and Hawes.
Older teenagers aged under 19 can also benefit from reduced fares, with £1 single tickets available on Moorsbus and DalesBus services. Standard single fares remain £3, while concessionary bus passes continue to be accepted.
Organisers hope the scheme will encourage more families to leave the car at home and make the most of North Yorkshire’s countryside, attractions and market towns during the summer holidays.
