Children urged to be careful after teenager approached in Leyburn

A mother is urging parents to warn their child to be cautious after a teenager was approached in Leyburn.

The incident happened in the market place at about 4pm yesterday near the memorial.

A man approached a 15-year-old girl and after talking to her, asked her to go for a walk on the Shawl.

The man was about 50-years-old and had grey hair.

He was wearing a brown body warmer and was about 5ft 8in.

The man told the girl he had visited Leyburn a few times so it’s presumed he wasn’t local.

The parent said her daughter was polite but got away as soon as she could she.

The mother said her daughter felt unsettled by the incident.

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101.

The incident comes days after a girl was approached by a man in the Maythorne area of Leyburn.

A 10-year-old girl was approached by a suspicious male on the walkway between the Maythorne and Dale Grove estates, off Wensleydale Avenue.

He is described as tall, slightly tubby and was wearing a grey hoodie.

The girl ran off unharmed.
