Christmas skating rink planned for Richmond Market Place

Organisers of Richmond’s Christmas festivities say they have been overwhelmed by the reaction to their plans for a skating rink in the Market Place.

The synthetic rink will be installed alongside the Christmas market taking place in the town on December 4.

Details were announced on Friday with hundreds of people reacting to a post on social media.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said: “It is safe to say we have been completely overwhelmed by the response to our Christmas ice rink announcement.

“We thought it would go down well, but had no idea just how well.

“We have actually gone back to the suppliers this morning to see if we can upgrade to the next size up, but sadly due to putting it on cobbles, and other factors, the answer was not this year.

“However we are still really excited to be bringing this to the market and hope everyone has loads of fun.

“To try and accommodate as many people as we can, we have split the bookings into half hour slots.”

As well as the rink and outdoor and indoor markets, there will be live entertainment in the town centre.

A festive 5K run is also planned.

Half hour slots can be booked on the rink for £4.50.
