A rare Ford Escort Mexico expected to sell for up to £32,000 will lead a packed sale of classic vehicles, motorcycles and motoring memorabilia when Tennants Auctioneers hosts its annual Summer Transport Sale in Leyburn next week.
Collectors from across the country are expected to descend on the North Yorkshire auction house for the sale on Saturday, July 11, which features everything from veteran Edwardian motoring to iconic fast Fords and vintage petrol pumps.
Topping the catalogue is a 1971 Ford Escort Mexico, one of Britain’s most recognisable rally-inspired performance cars. Finished in a striking red and white livery, the Escort was first registered in September 1971 and comes complete with previous MOT certificates and its original V5 registration document. It is guided at £28,000 to £32,000.
Another eye-catching lot is a beautifully presented 1968 MG Midget. Restored and sympathetically modified with a host of desirable upgrades, the classic British sports car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file detailing the work carried out and is expected to make £14,500 to £16,500.
Representing the earliest days of motoring is a charming 1912 8HP Clément-Bayard. The veteran vehicle is offered with an extensive history file and detailed notes from its current owner and is estimated at £14,000 to £16,000.
Motorcycles are also well represented, headed by a 1939 Velocette KTS 350. Complete with a buff logbook tracing its history back to 1955, the pre-war machine is expected to fetch between £10,000 and £12,000.
Away from the vehicles themselves, the sale includes an impressive selection of petrolania and automobilia. Highlights include an Avery-Hardoll 101 petrol pump, repainted in classic Shell colours and estimated at £2,000 to £3,000, alongside a signed René Lalique Tête d’Aigle Eagle Head car mascot, expected to sell for £1,500 to £2,000.
The auction offers a glimpse into more than a century of motoring history, with lots ranging from Edwardian engineering to post-war classics and collectable garage memorabilia.
The full catalogue will be on public view at Tennants’ salerooms in Leyburn from Sunday, July 5, until Friday, July 10, ahead of the auction on Saturday, July 11. All estimates are quoted before buyers’ premium, with vehicles attracting a 10 per cent premium and other lots subject to 24 per cent plus VAT.
