Police arrested a coach driver last night after he was found to be three times over the drink drive limit.
A traffic officer on patrol just before midnight stopped a Vauxhall Corsa travelling into Scotch Corner Services.
Police say the driver, a 64-year-old man from Scotland, smelt strongly of alcohol.
He provided a roadside reading of 119ug, over three times the legal limit of 35ug.
He was arrested and a blood sample has been taken in custody which will be analysed.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The male, a professional coach driver, was going into Scotch Corner to meet a coach full of passengers to drive them to Dover.
“It appears a potential disaster has been averted tonight.”
