Colburn distillery launches new rum

Colburn-based Yorkshire Dales Distillery has just completed its first bottling of its new product, Intrepid Ram Golden Yorkshire Rum.

Caribbean spirit has been distilled in Richmondshire with Yorkshire heather flowers and honey from very local hives.

Unusually in the UK and in a first for Yorkshire, the rum has then been oak aged at the distillery before being reduced to a bottling strength of 45% abv.

This story continues after the adverts:

The craft distillery was founded in 2016 with the aim of prioritising the employment and training of young people, the long term unemployed, veterans and ex-offenders.

In addition to its own range of spirits, the distillery creates, develops, distils and bottles products for a growing number of large and small businesses.

Owner and co-founder Sarah Brotherton said the new rum was smooth, with a bold vanilla and oak nose and a great chocolate finish.

“The team have worked very hard on the creation and development of an exceptional rum and we are very pleased to have reached the landmark of first bottling.

“In a year that has seen the distillery grow from two to seven staff, we have stuck to our core principles of local sourcing, genuine small batch production and the use of Swale Valley Water for all aspects of our work.

“Intrepid Ram is an exciting addition to the three London Dry Gins and the Yorkshire Vodka that make up the remainder of the Ram range.

“Genuinely unique and definitely a first for Yorkshire we have seen tremendous interest across the County and beyond.”

The distillery is now regularly open five days a week and can be booked for tours and tastings and private functions.
