Communities share funding for UCI World Championships Funding

Five communities are sharing almost £12,000 as they make plans to celebrate the visit of the world’s top cyclists to Richmondshire in September.

They have all received grant from the district council’s UCI event fund.

The fund aims support communities wanting to celebrate the visit to the district by the largest sporting event for the UK in 2019, the UCI Road World Cycling Championships.

Cyclists will be in Richmond on September 26 when the town hosts a start event and again on September 29 on the last day of the championships.

Successful bids through the first round are:

  • Bainbridge Parish Council – £1,824
  • Hawes United Football Club – £2,000
  • Leyburn Town Council – £2,000
  • Muker Parish Council – £823
  • Richmond Town Council – £5,000

There is still time for community groups and parish/town councils to apply for a slice of the fund, with a second deadline of 12noon on Monday, July 8. The scheme can support the costs of decorations, a big screen to show the race or route animation.

There is a maximum grant of £2,000 available per application with the application form on Richmondshire.gov.uk.

  1. How about a big slice for the welfare, support and school services for people most in need you all cut – the “lykra lovelies” can fund their own parades out of the Carl Les Millions and millions we are supposed to be getting back.
