Custodians of the community-owned George and Dragon pub in Hudswell say they hope to have the venue back open with two weeks.

The pub has shut temporarily following the departure of the previous tenant.

Members of the Hudswell Community Pub Ltd (HCP), which owns the premises, said they made offers of help to the couple, but the tenants decided to end their tenancy from the August 31.

The board of HCP say they are now preparing to reopen the pub.

They said in a statement: “The previous tenants have now left and we are preparing to re-open the pub. The board of HCP are determined that the disruption to trading should be minimised and have set up a transition team to oversee the temporary running of the pub.

“This unfortunately means we will need to close for a short time to enable stock taking, handover and refitting.

“We aim to reopen our award-winning George & Dragon by 15th September — we look forward to welcoming you back very soon.”

All inquiries about the tenancy and offers of assistance/furniture should contact the secretary by e-mail at martinbooth@georgeanddragonhudswell.com

The pub reopened in 2010 and has won numerous awards including CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year in 2017.
