Community repair cafe to open in Richmond this Sunday

A community repair and repurposing cafe will be held in Richmond Town Hall on Sunday from 10am to 12.30pm.

Community volunteers will be on hand to help repair household items that are brought in, and hot and cold drinks and cakes will be available.

The event will also host a repurposing activity area for children and young people.

It is free to attend and any donations received on the day will be used to help cover the costs of running this and any future cafes.

The event has been time to coincide with the national Great Big Green Week.

Barbara Gravenor, chair of the Richmondshire Climate Action Partnership, which has organised the event, said: “This is a fabulous opportunity for people to get their items repaired rather than sent to landfill and so to delay their need to buy a replacement.

“Hopefully, people can save a bit of money, whilst doing their bit for caring for the environment.

“The cafe’s repurposing activities will also encourage young people to consider how apparently useless objects can be brought back to life with a bit of imagination.”
