Concert choir seeks new singers ahead of busy 2019

Richmond Operatic Society’s ROSCO concert choir have a number of dates planned for 2019 and welcome new singers to join them after Christmas.

Local musician and ROS director John Hunter said: “The ROSCO choir only began rehearsing in September and we needed to concentrate on Christmas material after being asked to perform for a couple of functions, including in the Town Hall for the Christmas lights ‘switch on’ a couple of weeks ago.

“The choir’s debut performance was very well received indeed – a packed hall gave us a great reception – and new bookings were taken.”

Although the choir gives an opportunity for ROS members to continue singing even if not involved in their current production, and raise money for the society, the group is open to all interested local singers.

John said: “Most of the songs we have looked at so far have been more traditional four part, but in the new year we’ll try some more contemporary material; mostly songs from the stage and screen like Les Miserablés, Wicked, Menkin, Gershwin, etc. but with a little bit of pop and jazz as well, for good measure.

“Although the main aim of ROSCO is to have fun, sing together and learn new songs, it’s always good to look at vocal technique, and the complexities of rhythm, singing in parts, -even help with improving reading the music itself.

“Come along, and you’ll be given a very warm welcome.”

ROSCO begin rehearsing again on Wednesday, January 9 at 7.30pm at Richmond Operatic Hall, Bargate.
