A review of the document which governs where new development should take place is underway.
Changes are being made to Richmondshire’s local development plan and the public is being invited to have its say.
The plan covers the towns and villages outside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
This story continues after the adverts:
The authority has published a consultation document to give residents a chance to have their say.
Officials say the aim of the issues and options consultation is to identify the “key strategic issues and opportunities the revised local plan should address.
It will also identify some options and initial ideas for the strategic policies in certain areas such as the scale and location of housing and economic development.
It is proposed that the revised plan addresses the district’s ageing population and looks at the opportunities and challenges of the new Scotch Corner Designer Village.
There will also be four drop in sessions – in Richmond, Colburn, Leyburn and Gilling West – were local people can talk to members of the authority’s planning policy team.
The local plan is the planning framework for the area – it sets out what and where development is acceptable.
Once adopted it will govern how planning applications in the plan area are assessed.
“The first stage in this review is the development of Issues and Options, said Planning Spokesperson Cllr Jimmy Wilson-Petch.
“I urge residents, businesses and other interested parties to get involved in this very important stage as we develop the plan for our future.
“This consultation will identify the key issues and opportunities for Richmondshire which the revised local plan should address.
“It will also look at options and initial ideas for the strategic policies in certain areas – including the scale and location of housing and economic development.”
Following the consultation the comments and evidence gathered will be used in the preparation of a draft local plan and a draft Catterick area masterplan.
They are expected to be published for further consultation in Autumn 2019.
The issues and options consultation is open for comments from until October 31, 2018.
Four drop-in sessions will also be held by the planning policy team which are open for
anybody to attend to obtain further information on the consultation.
These will be held at:
- Leyburn – Thornborough Hall, Leyburn – Thursday 27 September (3pm-7pm)
- Richmond – Richmond Town Hall, Richmond – Monday 1 October (3pm-7pm)
- Gilling West – Gilling West Village Hall, Gilling West – Thursday 4 October
