Lingfield Education Trust is inviting the general public to attend a series of consultation events around the proposed opening of a new free school in Catterick Garrison.
The Darlington-based Multi-Academy Trust has put forward an application to North Yorkshire County Council to open Cambrai Community Primary School; a combined primary school and nursery which, if successful, would open on the former Darlington College site in September 2018.
Holding events at Colburn Parish Hall at 6.30pm on Wednesday March 29 and Catterick Garrison Library at 7.15pm on Thursday March 30, the trust will provide the public with information about plans for the school before opening the floor to questions.
Nick Blackburn, chief executive of Lingfield Education Trust, said: “There are already a shortage of places available at primary schools in the area and reports suggest that the Ministry of Defence is proposing to build an additional 315 serviced family homes by 2019 on sites in the surrounding area, further accelerating demand.
“If our plans are successful, this won’t just be a school for military families but a school for all. Ensuring a quality experience for pupils in Catterick and the surrounding areas is paramount, and we have the expertise, passion and drive to deliver just that.
“At Lingfield Education Trust, we aim to provide an environment where children are supported educationally, socially and practically to achieve their highest potential in school and life.
“North Yorkshire Council has already expressed support for our plans should we be successful, and we are looking forward to meeting with local people and letting them know more about the school.”
Cambrai Community Primary School would be the first in the North Yorkshire area for the MAT, which currently operates five schools across Darlington.
