The leader of Richmondshire District Council is appealing for donations to help the Ukrainian people who have fled their war-torn country.
Transport is being organised to take much-needed items from Colburn to Poland on Tuesday.
Cllr Angie Dale, who is helping to coordinate the appeal, said Garrison Van Hire had offered to take donations to help refugees leaving Ukraine.
The plan is to fill up to six vans with items.
Cllr Dale said: “This is about Richmondshire doing what it can — we all saw these poor people on TV. It’s bloody freezing and they’ve left with nothing.
“We are very good in Richmondshire about helping one another and now is the time we need to work together to do what we can.”
The councillor said that anyone organising their own appeals was welcome to drop off their donations at Colburn Village Hall or other places which have agreed to take items.
Donations can be left at Colburn Village Hall between 9am and 2am today, Thursday, Friday, and next Monday, and between 10am and 12pm on Saturday.
Several other locations in the Catterick area have agreed to accept donations. These are:
- Love Property – 9am to 5pm
- Hanson Sport – 7pm to 11pm
- JTs – 4pm to 11pm
Cllr Dale says items need to be at the hall by Monday due to the transport leaving on Tuesday.
