Richmondshire District Council’s headquarters will be a sea of poppies to celebrate the 2017 Remembrance Day.

Council officers are busy creating poppies in all manner of guises to attach to netting which will be draped around the Mercury House building in Richmond – both inside and out.

“We wanted to create our own tribute for remembrance day and having seen how popular similar displays have been around the country decided we could do something too,” said Jackie Allen.

“We have people knitting, crocheting and sewing poppies – as well as creating them from paper. They are being attached to netting, will be hung on railings and draped around the staircases. We hope our poppy walk will be spectacular.”
