Council suspends waste collections due to snow

Richmondshire District Council says all waste, recycling and garden collections have been suspended today due to the snow.

The council says that they will be unable to return for uncollected recycling until residents’ next scheduled collection day.

Households are advised to take these items to their nearest recycling centre, or place any excess out in carrier bags on their next scheduled day.

As the council was unable to collect waste around the district at the end of last week due to the weather conditions, this has meant that they are unable to collect some of the scheduled garden waste and Christmas tree collections.

Collections that are affected include those that were due to take place on Monday 11, Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 January.

These collections have been rescheduled so that Monday’s collection will now take place on Monday 18 and Tuesday’s collection will take place on Tuesday 19 January.

The councils says that as soon as they have rescheduled Thursday’s collections they will update their website with the new collection date.

For a full list of those locations that are affected please visit our Christmas collection service dates page.

The council said it was having to prioritise the collection of general waste that it was unable to collect last week due to the weather, and so they will not be able to collect residents’ paper and card recycling on 12 and 13 January in the following areas:

  • Horsehouse
  • Gammersgill
  • West Scrafton
  • Carlton
  • West Burton
  • West Witton
  • East Witton
  • Melmerby
  • Agglethorpe
  • Leyburn – Dale Grove, Brentwood, Maythorne

They will still be collecting plastics, cans and glass so residents should leave their recycling boxes out today so these can be emptied.

The council said that they are unable to return for uncollected paper/card until the next scheduled collection day.

Residents are advised to take your these items to your nearest recycling centre, or place any excess out in carrier bags on your next scheduled day.
