A couple were rescued after becoming stranded on steep ground below waterfalls at Aysgarth on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Aysgarth Falls at around 5.05pm after two people became stuck at the bottom of the waterfalls and were unable to get back to safety.
Fire crews from Leyburn attended the incident and worked alongside Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team. After the couple were located by firefighters, mountain rescue volunteers were able to access them on the steep terrain and escort them safely away from the area.
Both people were left in a place of safety and no further action was required from the fire service.
In a statement, Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Incident 31: Called by the Fire Service to rescue a couple stranded on steep ground at Aysgarth Falls. First team members reached the casualties and escorted them to safety. Another example of multi-agency working.”
Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team is a volunteer-run charity that relies on public donations to fund its specialist rescue equipment, vehicles and training.
