Covid case continue to rise as Richmondshire pubs close as a precaution

The number of positive Covid-19 tests in Richmondshire continues to rise as several pubs close as a precaution after cases on their premises.

A total of 144 cases were recorded in the district in the seven days to July 1.

The rate of 268 cases per 100,000 people is the highest in North Yorkshire — with the rate the highest its been since January 21.

In the seven days to June 29, Catterick Garrison and Colburn has had the highest number of cases of any local area in North Yorkshire with 47.

Elsewhere in the district there were 31 positive tests in the Leyburn and Middleham area, 24 in north Richmondshire, 22 in Richmond town, and 19 in Catterick Village and Brompton-on-Swale.

The rise in cases in the Leyburn area has caused several primary school classes to shut after pupils were found to have the virus.

Several pubs and restaurants, including The Sandpiper in Leyburn and the Three Horseshoes in Wensley, have also closed for several days as a precaution after cases on their premises.
