Covid cases in Richmondshire surge again

A sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in Catterick Garrison and Colburn has pushed the district’s positive test rate to its highest figure this year.

There were 325 new confirmed cases in Richmondshire in the seven days to July 15.

The rate of positive tests per 100,000 people now stands at 605 — the highest it has been this year and currently the highest in North Yorkshire.

Localised figures show there were 153 positive tests in Catterick Garrison and Colburn in the seven days to July 13.

This was the highest number of any areas in North Yorkshire.

Elsewhere in the district the number of positive tests over the same period were:

  • Catterick Village and Brompton – 26
  • North Richmondshire – 24
  • Richmond Town – 22
  • Upper Dales – 20
  • Leyburn, Middleham and Tunstall – 18

A permanent testing site is currently running at Ypres Lines, Richmond Road, Catterick Garrison, DL9 3JF.

It is open every day for testing between 8am and 1.30pm.

Between 2.30pm and 8pm it is open for collecting tests if you don’t have symptoms.

There are also a number of mobile testing sites open from 9am to 3pm in the district in coming days:

  • Thursday, July 22 – Leyburn – district council car park, Leyburn, DL8 5EE
  • Friday, July 23– Richmond – Round Howe Car Park, Reeth Road, Richmond, DL10 4TL
  • Sunday, July 25 – Richmond – Round Howe Car Park, Reeth Road, Richmond, DL10 4TL
