Dales artists to stage a grand bank holiday display

Dinah Francis's Kingfisher

By Betsy Everett

Original paintings that would not look out of place in a top gallery will be on display in an upper dales village over the bank holiday weekend.

At Easter it was the West Burton art group, this spring bank holiday it will be the turn of Carperby to stage a free exhibition of stunning watercolours from the amateur painters who meet in the village institute each Tuesday.

Originally under the expert tuition of landscape artist Winifred Hodge, the Tuesday group, who have been meeting for more than 10 years, now work untutored offering support and encouragement to each other as they represent the landscape, animal, and bird life of the Dales.
The story continues after the adverts. . .

As at West Burton, the light and airy space where the group of a dozen artists work will also be the venue for the display, Wensleydale being peculiarly blessed with these small, attractive halls which provide an ideal backdrop as well as a working area. Dinah Francis paints with both groups, and her work is again on display in this exhibition which runs throughout the bank holiday weekend, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, from 10am-4pm. Most of the paintings will be for sale, refreshments will be served and any donations will be given to Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. Other artists exhibiting are Max Ahmed, Lesley Cartwright, Sandra Jones, Gill Kopka and Pam Redhead.
