A Dales darts league will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this month.

The Swaledale Darts League was formed in 1973.

It started with 19 teams from pubs throughout the Swaledale and beyond.

In the beginning, most pubs had two teams including the Farmers Arms in Muker, Kings Head in Gunnerside, The Buck, the Black Bull and Kings Arms all in Reeth, CB Inn in Arkengarthdale, The Bridge at Grinton, and the Bolton Arms in Downholme.

The George and Dragon in Hudswell. The Punchbowl and Tan Hill Inn Inn all had one team.

In celebration of the anniversary, the league is holding a 50th anniversary dinner at the Garden Rooms at Tenants on Friday, May 26.

Players and their partners will be attending on the night, together with three of the founding members, including Lawrence Atkinson, who still plays for the Red Lion in Langthwaite.
