A fundraising group is hoping to add to the £30,000 it has already raised by holding a Carnival-themed ball.
The Dales Divas are a group of women from Wensleydale and Coverdale who get together to raise money for charity by completing challenges and organising events.
This year, they will be joined by male friends to tackle the London to Brighton 100km Ultra Challenge.
The team will take on the full distance of the route which they are hoping to complete in less than 24-hours.
Alison Laws, from the Dales Divas, said: “Our fundraising usually happens through a themed ball, and this year’s ball is themed as Carnival.
“Previously we’ve had Hollywood Glamour and Masquerade themed balls, but this year we felt that a Carnival theme was ideal for our first event since the pandemic as people would be ready for a party.”
The ball will take place on June 18 at the Garden Rooms at Tennants.
Alison added: “We always try to ensure that our events are fun with extra special additions that make it more than just a black tie dinner.”
“This year we have Belvoir Hill playing for us as well as magician Andy Larmouth.
“We have a raffle and a silent auction, and this year we have Welly Pong! Previous events have seen Bra-Pong and Pants-Pong to match the charities we have supported, and this year is no exception as we are supporting The Farm Safe Foundation also known as Yellow Wellies, who raise awareness of farm safety and mental well-being in farmers, and Group Hug, an enterprise for social good.
“These are always hotly contested to take away the trophy.”
To date, the group has raised over £30,000 which has been donated to Walk the Walk, a breast cancer charity, Prostate Cancer UK and the Teenage Cancer Ward at The Leeds Royal Infirmary.
Tickets are £55 each.
They can be purchased individually or in tables of ten or 12.
The price includes a welcome drink, three-course dinner followed by tea or coffee and entertainment.
