Dales primary school children get free swimming passes

West Burton Primary School.

The children and families of pupils at the Bainbridge, Askrigg and West Burton Federation schools have been given free swimming passes for use at Richmond Swimming Pool and Catterick Leisure Centre.

The cards entitle families to enjoy free swims during the term-time evening and weekend public swimming times  – including fun sessions – offered by the pools

Older and younger siblings are included in the free swim sessions, as are two accompanying adults.

The cards are funded by the schools’ sport premium funding

All schools receive this grant and can choose how they spend the money, providing it enhances sports provision for their pupils.

Vickie McGee, community outreach and development manager for Richmondshire Leisure Trust, said: “Swimming is the perfect way to bond as a family, not to mention the exercise.

“Visiting a swimming pool is a great way to have fun and build positive memories that will last a lifetime.”

Rob Stokes, the federation’s PE and outdoor learning coordinator, said: “We were inspired to start this initiative after seeing the Reeth and Gunnerside primary schools doing something similar.

“We’d like to thank Richmond and Catterick pools for working with us to make this scheme possible.”

Rhys Wilson, parent of two children at the BAWB Federation schools, said: “We’ve already used the free swimming passes a couple of times.

“It’s great to see the children build up their fitness and water confidence and have fun doing it, and to know that it’s supported by the schools that they go to is fantastic.'”
