A Dales pub has closed until further notice.

The King’s Head in Gunnerside, Swaledale, has closed its doors.

A notice on the pub’s Facebook page states: “We have made the tough decision to close the Kings Head until further notice.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last five years, we’ve had some great times in this little pub.”

The pub, which dates from 1760, closed in 2009 following a dispute between the a former owner Stuart Watson and tenant.

It was reopened by new tenants, however the pub closed again in 2012.

It then reopened in 2014 after being taken over by Nick and Karen Glanvill, who also own Keld Lodge.

They carried out an extensive renovation of the building including a new roof.

  1. Such sad news. Lovely couple. Great atmosphere and beautiful food. One of the reasons we always holiday in Muker. We always eat there when we are in the area.

  2. That’s sad, and it’s the only pub in Gunnerside. I’m surprised that there is not enough customers to keep it open.

  3. Very sad to hear this..First called in 1994 on a coast to coast bike ride.Still call in when in Swaledale….but no more..
