Dales youngsters perform song of hope

Children perform the Hope song.

Dales children have come together online to perform a song of hope.

The performance was led by Debbie Allenby, director of the Dales Community Pop Choir, who put out an appeal for children to take part in online singing workshops during lockdown.

The children practiced performing a song, Hope Burns Brightly, written by Debbie, with the lyrics inspired by a poem written by her friend, Claire Hope.

Debbie said: “After putting a message out on Facebook, I ran a series of singing workshops where the children were able to learn the melody and have the process of filming themselves explained.

“The filming process can be a really daunting experience and they were all incredibly brave.

“I then collated the videos and patched them together using a couple of different platforms to create the finished piece.

“The brilliant Dales Community Pop Choir provided the backing harmonies for the song.

“We hope to sing together in the flesh as soon as possible and I’d love to be able to run more similar projects.”

The project is raising money for the Young Minds Trust.

Debbie added: “I thinks it’s such an important message in these difficult times, especially so for children and young people.

“I think is incredibly important to support mental health charities, who have already seen a large increase in demand for their services.”

Debbie hopes the children can perform at this year’s Swaledale festival.
