Darlington man jailed for shoplifting in Leyburn and Northallerton

A Darlington man has been jailed for the theft of alcohol from shops in Leyburn and Northallerton.

Jimmy Dungey, 35, from Birmingham Street, Darlington, appeared before magistrates in York on Tuesday after stealing a large quantity of alcohol.

The defendant was charged with stealing the bottles and other items from the Co-op in Leyburn on February 23 and 24 this year.

He was also charged with stealing a large amount of alcohol from Tesco in Northallerton on February 21.

He pleaded guilty to all three charges.

The defendant was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128.

The court heard Dungey’s previous record of offences were taken into consideration when the sentence was passed.
