Discretionary grant scheme opens for Richmondshire businesses

Richmondshire businesses can now apply to a new funding stream to help them through the coronavirus pandemic.

Online applications are being taken for the discretionary grant scheme.

The district council is implementing the Government’s offer of additional assistance for businesses who were not eligible for previous grants  and who were trading on March 11.

The scheme is aimed at businesses with high ongoing fixed building related costs and that can demonstrate they have suffered significant losses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Businesses entitled to the discretionary grant scheme must apply by June 22 through the on line application form at richmondshire.gov.uk/discretionary-grant-scheme.

Grant payments will be made to businesses as soon as possible following detailed evaluation of compliance with the scheme after the 23 June cut off date.

Grant levels are as follows:

  • £25,000 in exceptional cases where, the business has very high property related costs and the failure of the business would have a significant impact on the residents of the District
  • Up to £10,000 for Small businesses as defined in Government policy
  • Up to £5,000 for Micro businesses as defined in Government policy
  • Up to £2,500 for Regular Market traders

The council says it may decide to open a further window for applications if funds allow.

The council ads that it expects calls to the customer service centre to be high as a result of this scheme and asks customers to be patient.
