A distillery has vowed not to be beaten after thieves stole £85,000 of stock at the weekend.

Around 5,000 bottles of gin and rum were stolen from storage containers used by Yorkshire Dales Distillery in Colburn.

The raid took place on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It is believed the thieves pulled open the doors using a van and chains or rope fastened to the containers.

The company is owned by Tony and Sarah Brotherton.

Sarah said: “It’s heart-breaking — we’ve just got through covid for this to happen.

“But we have very good relationships with our staff, suppliers and customers and we are sure they will support us 100 per cent.

“Even if we have to work 24/7 to replenish the stock that’s what we will do.

“Customers may experience a time delay but we won’t let this beat us.”

CCTV footage is being examined from the area.

A long wheel base white was was seen at the unit at Easton Way between 7.40pm and 8.20pm on Saturday.

The vehicle then returns at around 1am on Sunday morning.

The public is also being urged to look out for the distinctive bottles which are pictured here:
