Richmondshire district councillors have agreed to contribute £295,000 to two schemes to create seven new affordable homes in the Dales.

The houses – in Askrigg and Arkengarthdale – will be funded from the authority’s Community Led Housing Fund (CLHF) and will bring the number of new affordable homes built using this cash to eleven – the other four being in Hudswell.

Members of Corporate Board this week approved grants of £150,000 for the Askrigg scheme and £145,000 for Arkengarthdale.

The fund was launched by central government in 2016 when 148 local authorities across the UK received money to deliver community led affordable housing schemes – Richmondshire got £493,730 and set up its own fund in February 2017.

The Askrigg Foundation will turn two market place properties into three affordable homes; while four homes will be built on land next to the Methodist Chapel in Langhtwaite,

Arkengarthdale in a development by the Upper Dales Community Land Trust.
