Dog rescued after 50ft fall down cliffs

A dog was rescued after falling 50ft down cliffs yesterday.

The incident happened at Round Howe near Richmond.

Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) was called by police to help after the incident was reported.

A SMRT spokesperson said: “The team abseil searched from above and at the same ground teams and search dog searched the lower slopes.

“Our team search dog located the injured dog, who was then stretchered off the fell.”

It was the first outing for SMRT’s incident support vehicle which was purchased following major fundraising drive by the volunteers.
