Dog rescued from island in River Swale

Emergency services were called to Kisdon Waterfall near Keld after a dog became stranded on an island below the falls.

North Yorkshire Police requested assistance from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team.

A crew from Reeth Fire Station attended the remote location in Swaledale.

Firefighters successfully recovered the dog, which was unharmed, but required support from the rescue team to safely return from the steep and loose terrain surrounding the waterfall.

A rope system was put in place to help guide both the crew and the dog back up to the footpath.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all involved, everyone was safely recovered back to Keld with no injuries reported.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Reeth worked alongside mountain rescue teams and rescued the dog stuck on a rock in the middle of the River Swale.

“The dog was reunited with its owner who was also in attendance and was safe and well.”
