Drink driver arrested after two seriously injured

A motorist was arrested for drink driving after a crash at the weekend which left two people with serious injuries.

Police and firefighters attended a single-vehicle collision involving a Vauxhall Zafira on the A684 near Northallerton at about 1am on Saturday morning.

Three men were injured, two of them seriously, and treated at James Cook Hospital.

One of the men suffered head injuries, several broken bones and punctured lungs.

One of the men, a 28-year-old, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Richmondshire Today initially understood that nobody was seriously hurt in the crash but new information has revealed that this was not the case.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crew from Northallerton attended a single vehicle road traffic collision.

“A Vauxhall Zafira had gone down an embankment.”
