Motorists have been urged to take extra care today after snow and ice caused treacherous conditions on the county’s roads.
Overnight freezing temperatures have turned yesterday’s snow and sleet to ice, which has left footpaths dangerously slippy this morning.
North Yorkshire Police said in a statement last night: “Driving conditions tonight and tomorrow morning are likely to be difficult.
If you have to make an essential journey, please give yourself plenty of time and drive to the conditions.
“We have dealt with several collisions already today and our officers will be out and about across the county overnight to keep people safe and help motorists.”
Car parks and other open spaces are also concern with reports of ice across the Market Place in Leyburn this morning.
Heavy snow and blizzard conditions on higher ground in the Dales making several routes unpassable for the majority of vehicles.
