Police say a driver whose car took off on an embankment and landed 30 metres from the road had a ‘bit of a Dukes of Hazzard moment’.

The incident happened on Kneeton Lane, Middleton Tyas, just after 7pm on Saturday night.

Two women in the car where released by fire crews who removed the roof of the vehicle using hydraulic cutting gear.

Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital by road ambulance

Photos of the crash have been posted on-line by officers North Yorkshire Police’s roads policing group.

They said: “A bit of a Dukes of Hazzard moment over the weekend for this Citroen driver near Richmond.

“Excess speed for the country road resulted in the driver shooting straight over a junction, taking off over an embankment and clearing a fence before landing in a field some 30 metres from the road.

“A lesson learned for the driver and they will be spoken to in due course.

“Injuries are luckily not life threatening.”
