A team of electricians has come to the rescue after the home of an elderly man who cares for his terminally ill wife lost its spark.

Ray Hemingway, 80, of Richmond, was having trouble with his solar system and his problems came up in conversation with local electrician Dan Holliday, from DMH Electrical and Renewables.

Dan called on his industry contacts and very quickly he found a group of willing volunteers to help free of charge.

“When I heard of Ray’s circumstances, I wanted to help,” said Dan, director of DMH Electrical and Renewables.

“DMH will always try and support the local community. It is the community around us that keeps our business alive.

“Ultimately, without paying something back to community we are nothing without the people around us.”

Many companies collaborated on the project including DMH Electrical and Renewables, which is based at Morton Park, Darlington, and provides a range of electrical services including solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and heat pumps, East Renewables, Oval Renewables, Power Sonic Electrical, panel manufactures Longi , solar roof mounting specialists Van der Valk, SolaSkirt, Edmundson Electrical (Stockton) and BS Scaffold.

All the companies freely gave their time and materials to support the community project, which was delivered on one day.

Ray said: “The gentlemen that came did a wonderful job and I am so appreciative. I am overwhelmed. I cannot speak more highly of them, they have been wonderful to me.”

Each part of the project was fully funded by the contractors at no cost to Ray. Longi sales director Sarah Wallace said: “When we heard about Ray’s situation we just wanted to help. As a global manufacturer it is always important to support local communities and give something back.

“When I spoke to DMH Electrical and Renewables there was no question about Longi getting involved to support this couple with a really good solar PV system.”

Dan said: “It means the world to us to get involved in projects like this. We are supporting people in their time of need.

“I would hope that if my friends or family ever needed help, the community would support them. It is important to pay it forward.”
