Bus driver cut free after crash near Richmond

The emergency services attended a bus crash near Richmond this morning.

The driver had to be cut free by firefighters.

They were not seriously injured and there were fortunately no other passengers on the coach at the time.

The incident happened near Gilling West on the road towards Richmond, near the Aske Estate entrance, at about 9.30am.

Firefighters from Richmond and Colburn fire stations attended the incident.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This morning at 9.30am, Richmond appliance, Colburn and Ripon’s Incident Response Unit were called to road traffic collision involving a coach at Aske Hall.

“It was immediately confirmed by fire control that there was only the driver on the coach.

“Working together with the paramedics, crews used crew power to extricate the driver, who thankfully was not seriously injured.”

The road to Gilling West reopened shortly afterwards.
