Emergency services called to reports of child in difficulty in water

The emergency services were called out to reports of a child in difficulty in water this evening.

Firefighters, paramedics and volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) responded to an eight-year-old boy in a stream with steep sides.

The incident happened in Catterick Garrison near Sidmouth Square.

Thankfully the child was able to get out of water prior to crews arrival.

A spokesperson for SMRT said: “The team was called this evening to reports of a child in difficulty in a steep sided stream.

“Fortunately they were stood down enroute with everyone safe.

“Be careful near water folks.”
