Nine-year-old boy suffers serious injuries in bus collision

The accident happened outside St Francis Xavier School.

A nine-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being hit by a bus.

Police say the schoolboy remains in hospital today after the incident at 3.30pm on Monday at the car park at St Francis Xavier School in Darlington Road.

A spokesman said on Tuesday morning that the boy was taken to hospital with serious – but not life-threatening – injuries, where he continues to receive treatment.

Police said they attended a collision on Darlington Road, Richmond, involving a pedestrian and a bus.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while police and paramedics worked at the scene.

The school said in a post on its Facebook page on Monday: “Buses currently delayed at school due to an incident in the car park, paramedics and ambulance crew have arrived at the scene and the buses should be departing within the hour.”

A Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter attended the scene, as well as road ambulances.
