The emergency services dealt with an overturned vehicle on the A1 this evening.
Police, fire crews and ambulances attended the scene of the collision north of Scotch Corner on the southbound carriageway near the Darlington spur road.
The Great North Air Ambulance was also sent to the incident.
The accident caused long tailbacks and police urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.
It is understood nobody was seriously injured.

Crews are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A1 southbound carriageway, south of the Darlington spur. Avoid the area if possible. Incident is on going.
