England rugby legend sends message to Wensleydale RUFC ahead of final

Rugby World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson has sent a message to Wensleydale RUFC ahead of their Twickenham final at the weekend.

Dale will take on Teddington RFC in the final of the Papa John’s Community Cup on Sunday.

Wilkinson, who was capped 91 times for England and scored a drop kick that won the country the 2003 Rugby World Cup, said in a video message: “I’m just saying well done on an awesome season getting to the final of the Papa John’s Cup.

“I know you’ve got your big game on Sunday and I just wanted to wish you well.

“Go out there and explore that amazing talent, go out there and make it feel amazing, bond, get together and play each minute as as fully as possible and the rest will look after itself just like it has all season for you guys because of how much you care for each other.

“Enjoy, take care, couldn’t wish you more success.”

The club earnt their place in the final with a 35-21 win over East Grinstead on Saturday.

The achievement comes days after Wensleydale celebrated promotion to Yorkshire One for the first time in its history after finishing top of the Yorkshire second division.
