Risedale School is celebrating its best English and maths GCSE pass rate since 2022 after recording improved examination results for the second year running.
The Catterick Garrison school said the proportion of pupils achieving at least a grade 4 – regarded as a standard pass – in both English and maths had more than doubled since 2024.
The number achieving grade 5 or above in both subjects has also more than doubled compared with last year.
The school said a quarter of its Year 11 pupils passed all of their qualifications.
Strong performances were also recorded in practical subjects including art, drama, design and technology, engineering, sport studies and textiles.
Among the school’s individual success stories were:
- Oliver Lavery – achieved a grade 9 in English Literature, with 100 per cent of his grades between 9 and 5.
- Kaiden Collins – achieved grades between 9 and 6 in all his subjects.
- Taufa Makasiale – achieved a grade 9 in Art, Craft and Design, with grades between 9 and 4 across all his subjects.
- Malachi O’Brien – achieved grades between 9 and 4 in all his subjects.
- Ellie O’Connell – achieved grades between 9 and 5 in all her subjects.
- Charlotte Swift – achieved a grade 9 in Art, Craft and Design, with grades between 9 and 4 across all her subjects.
- William Bell – achieved grades between 9 and 4 in all his subjects.
- Ethan Bone – achieved grades between 9 and 4 in all his subjects.
Headteacher Mrs L Greenwood said: “These results demonstrate our absolute commitment to sustained improvement – we are seeing more pupils obtaining high grades, some of whom have achieved magnificent grades 8 and 9, and significantly larger numbers leaving us with the grades they need to secure their place at the sixth form, college or training provider of their choice.
“I am delighted that the hard work of our leaders and staff is directly impacting young people’s life chances positively and that we are seeing the fruits of the changes that have been made at Risedale in the last two years.
“I thank staff for embracing these changes and parents/carers and pupils for coming with us on our improvement journey – together we will move forward and build on this.
“We wish our class of 2026 every success in their future endeavours – they have worked hard this year to be the BEST version of themselves and will hopefully take our values of Responsibility, Respect, Resilience, and Relationships with them into the world.
