Entries are now being accepted for Richmond’s Business Awards for Excellence.

The awards, which were inaugurated in 2020, celebrate the variety and quality of businesses in Richmond and the surrounding area, along with the people who run and work in them.

The Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association (ORBTA), which now has the strength of over 100 members, has again joined forces with The Company of Mercers, Grocers and Haberdashers of Richmond (Yorkshire) Guild to run the Awards.

Russell Lord, Freeman of the Mercers Guild, said: “We are delighted to be involved in the Business Excellence Awards 2022.

“The Company is proud to be working alongside The Original Richmond Business & Tourism Association and Richmondshire District Council to make these awards a success in recognising the contribution business makes to the local community.

“The inaugural Awards 2020 highlighted the wealth and diversity of businesses within the area and we look forward to celebrating their success again at this year’s Awards Ceremony.

Marcia McLuckie, chair of the Original Richmond and Business and Tourism Association, said she appreciated the financial help being given.

“We are very grateful to Richmondshire District Council and the Company of Mercers, Grocers and Haberdashers for again giving us the support to run these awards for Richmond.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the excellent businesses in Richmond and the surrounding area”.

The Dennis Graves Award for Young Person of the Year – this new special award has been created in memory of Dennis Graves, joint-owner of Mocha Chocolate shop in Richmond.

Dennis, who died suddenly last year, was passionate about encouraging young people to learn.

Marcia said: “He spent a lot of time with the army cadets both as a cadet and an adult trainer – he got so much from the mentoring he received and he tried, with great success, to have that kind of influence on the cadets he took under his wing.

“He was keen when time allowed to have apprentices at Mocha and work experience young adults from school.

“This award in his name recognises Dennis’s desire to help young people to succeed.”
