Date(s) - 10/11/2018
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
West Burton Village Hall
We will be going in search of the Milky Way, sparkling star clusters and a spectacular distant galaxy with our Autumn star party. The Milky Way arches overhead during the evening making this the perfect time to see it a long way from the city lights. We’ll also keep eyes peeled for shooting stars and satellites scuttling overhead and have telescopes and binoculars at the ready to take you on a tour of the heavens. We may even be able to spy the red planet, Mars. But we’ll start with a colourful beginners talk to set the scene and answer some of those questions you’ve always wanted to ask. Event goes ahead in all weather. You will even get the chance to handle four billion year old rocks from outer space!
The Yorkshire Dales
This is one of the darkest designated landscapes in England, where all the major astronomical delights can be glimpsed, from the Milky Way to the Northern Lights.
Astronomer Richard Darn was part of the team that achieved designation of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park and helped launch Kielder Observatory. He has appeared on BBC Sky at Night and Stargazing Live and has regular BBC radio slots. He also advises the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors national parks on dark sky conservation. For more visit https://darkskiesuk.org
