Specialising in pastel, Nicky Dagnall is drawn to painting animals and flowers and has a genuine delight in painting sheep, gaining a reputation for her colourful portrayal of these and also her dramatic skies. Travelling between Skye and Richmond (camera in hand) gives her all the inspiration she needs to paint. The superb light, variety of wildlife and fauna in both the Yorkshire Dales and on the Isle of Skye are reminders of the beauty of nature and constantly provide new ideas and subjects to explore.Her paintings can be very different, depending on the subject chosen, from illustrative to impressionistic as she creates striking images using bold colour, manipulating the pastel in various ways to add depth and texture to her work. “I never know how any of my paintings will develop as I don’t plan what I am painting, it just evolves as I work” said Nicky.
