Come and learn about the fascinating story of Hornby Castle
once a huge estate with a rich and fascinating history
In aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Amazing Grace School in South Sudan
and the charitable work of St Mary’s Church Hornby
You will be taken on a journey from Saxon times, through the medieval period to the 17th Century and on to the estate in its heyday until its sale in 1930, illustrated with stories, professional living history re-enactments and demonstrations and input from experts.
- See displays showing the extent of the estate, it’s place in history and some of the people who lived in it, illustrated with maps and photographs.
- Visit the archaeological site: a medieval tower with a violent past and links to the Wars of the Roses.
- View the parkland and the outside of castle itself; learn about the lives of some of the more colourful people who lived there, and the eventual tragic fate of the estate.
Lunch and refreshments + Raffle + Produce Stall
Tours start and finish at St Mary’s Church Hornby, DL8 1NQ
Parking will be signposted.
Programme – Morning and afternoon sessions:
Morning Session: Meet at St Mary’s Church at 09.30 Hrs for refreshments. Event starts at 10.00 Hrs and finishes at 14.00 Hrs (lunch from about 13.15 Hrs).
Afternoon Session: Meet at St Mary’s Church at 13.15 for lunch. Event starts at 14.00 Hrs and finishes at 18.00 Hrs (tea from about 17.15).

- Lunch: A selection of delicious home-made soups, served with fresh bread rolls and cheese.
