A Q&A on rural transport with Andy MacDonald MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, will be held at Richmondshire Cricket Club this weekend.

Richmondshire Labour are organising the public meeting at 1pm on Saturday, April 6.

The party said in a statement: “Rural transport is such an important issue in our area – the cuts over the last few years have inevitably impacted on people’s mobility for work, for health appointments, for leisure and much more.

“This is a chance to illustrate the problems to the Shadow Secretary and discuss options and solutions.”

The meeting will also see the launch of Labour’s campaign for the forthcoming district council elections.

Local candidates will meet with Andy MacDonald at the close of the meeting at around 2.30pm for photos.

Chair of the local Labour branch, Gill Page, said: “The Tory government’s policies of austerity cut hard on rural areas in many ways – transport being just one.

“Our candidates are committed to showing there are workable alternatives that put local communities and their welfare first.”
