An electrical engineer with a research background, Peter Moppett worked at different times on radar pulse generation, wind tunnel design and gyroscopic stabilisation. Following National Service with the Royal Signals, he specialised in metallurgical process plant power distribution and control for most of his career.
He retired from a senior local government post in 1997 and returned to the North East to live between the dales and moors, beneath the broad skies of North Yorkshire. There, he is now able to concentrate on his long time love of photography and painting, combining them both in digital form.
He has developed a passion for and some skill in painting with the aid of a computer and graphics tablet. The process offers an infinite colour palette combined with an infinite variety of brush styles.
Each of his pictures consists of multiple colour layers or layer groups which, when merged, produce finished and detailed art styles and effects.
Peter has produced a book – Richmond and Swaledale: An Illustrated Guide to a Beautiful Dale. A truly beautiful new book about Richmond, Swaledale and Arkengarthdale, packed with full colour photographs, paintings and information.
He will be signing copies on the platform on Wednesday 13th December. 10.30am – 3.30pm
