Richmondshire Orchestra is dipping into Britain’s unique and wonderful light orchestral music heritage.

After years of neglect light music is at last being recognized as a vibrant and important part of musical life and heritage, with performances on air and at the Proms, notably by John Wilson and his orchestra.

Richmondshire Orchestra has chosen old favourites such as Binge’s Elizabethan Serenade, Coate’s Calling all Workers, Farnon’s Westminster Waltz, Sullivan’s Overture to The Mikado and Ernest Tomlinson’s Suite of English Folk Dances.

However, there will be the unusual addition of bass guitar and drum kit for the highlight of the concert- the first Yorkshire performance by a full symphony orchestra of Lennon/McCartney’s Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, in an orchestration by the rock musician and composer Dee Palmer.
