A free introductory online course to bell ringing organised by the Two Dales bell ringers.
Throughout the country plans are being made to Ring for the King for the Coronation of King Charles III on 6 May 2023. Would you like to learn to ring this coronation year?
For hundreds of years church bells have rung out, not only as a call to worship, but also to proclaim special events. They are part of the soundscape of the UK. In June 2022 we celebrated our late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the sound of bells. Bells rang throughout the nation as a mark of respect at her passing in September 2022. On Coronation Day we will Ring for the King here in Wensleydale and Swaledale. And we will be delighted to teach you to ring this coronation year.
Two Dales ringers are therefore putting on a course of short interactive on-line presentations on the joy, techniques, and benefits of bell ringing. There will be hands-on training in local bell towers interspersed with the on-line sessions and, after initial one-to-one training, you will be able to join the friendly bell band. In Richmondshire, we are particularly looking for new bellringers for East Witton, which would be ideal for those living in Leyburn, Harmby or Spennithorne, and for Askrigg church, which would suit anybody living in upper Wensleydale. However, all residents of the two dales will be most welcome.
