THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE FESTIVAL OF PERFORMING ARTS

Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May 2022  |  Outdoors if the weather is nice – Indoors if it is wet!

This community celebration event has been kindly supported by Richmondshire District Council’s Jubilee Fund, Leyburn Town Council and our many volunteers and performers taking part over the weekend of events – Thank you.

 

The Festival begins on Friday evening with a special screening of The Queen starring Helen Mirren in one of her most famous roles. Usual cinema prices, £6 & £5 for concessions, but includes complimentary sandwiches and cake.
Saturday’s events include performances by Janet Seymour’s School of Theatre and Dance, Yoredale Strummers Ukulele Group and Leyburn Band. Leyburn Amateur Dramatic Society present ‘The Jewels in the Crown’ written especially for the celebrations by Anthony Scully.

Saturday finishes with a special concert performed by members of BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts. Decades – A Musical Celebration takes a look at some of the key moments and popular hits that form the backdrop to the Queen’s historic 70-year reign.

On Sunday 29th there will be presentations by The Dales Community Pop Choir, Joan Danvers’ Sequence Dancing, BlueBoxt’s young performers, Colin Bailey and other guest musicians throughout the weekend.

To celebrate the official opening of the Jubilee Orchard, there will be a tree planting and opening ceremony. Prizegiving for the Jubilee Primary Schools Art Competition will be followed by afternoon tea to end what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable celebration.

SUNDAY 29TH MAY, 11.30PM to 4.00PM

DANCE: Joan Danvers’ Sequence Dancing, 12.00PM (AUDITORIUM)

Joan, Carl and guests present a selection of popular dances and invite those (who wish) to join them on the dancefloor.

MUSIC: The Dales Community Pop Choir, 1.00PM 
Members of the award-winning ladies’ singing group present a ‘sneak preview’ of songs from their forthcoming Summer concert programme.

CELEBRATION: Jubilee Orchard opening ceremony and tree planting, 2.00PM (COMMUNITY GARDEN)
Representatives from various local community groups come together for a special tree-planting ceremony to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as part of the Leyburn & District Community Shed and Gardens project.

The Jubilee Orchard will be opened by Cllr. Karin Sedgwick followed by
prize giving for the Jubilee Primary Schools Art Competition and afternoon tea.

MUSIC: Jean Robinson and Bert Bohanan, 3.00PM
Jean and Bert are a popular local vocal duo who perform regularly in the Leyburn area.
The perfect accompaniment for afternoon tea!

MUSIC: BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts, various times.
There will be performances by members of the Play Record Perform project and Colin Bailey throughout the day.
